Hun Sen meets with Li Yuanchao to enhance Sino-Cambodian ties

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen Wednesday met with Li Yuanchao, head of the Organization Department of the CPC (Communist Party of China) Central Committee, aimed to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries as well as the relations of the political parties of the two countries.

Li Yuanchao first conveyed greetings from Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to Hun Sen, and on behalf of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese government and the people, he expressed condolences to the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), the government of Cambodia and the people on the stampede tragedy at the Diamond Island recently.

During the meeting, Li said that "China and Cambodia are friendly neighbors and the friendship between our two peoples goes back to ancient times." He highly valued the cooperation relations between the two countries and political parties, saying that in recent years, the cooperations between the two countries have yielded fruitful results; the political mutual trust has strengthened steadily; and economic and trade cooperation has developed rapidly.

Li thanked the Cambodian People's Party and the Royal government of Cambodia headed by Prime Minister Hun Sen for its One China policy and support China on the issues involving China's core interests.

He said China is willing to join effort with Cambodia to promote the bilateral pragmatic cooperation in various fields to achieve mutual benefits and common development.

On the issue of the relations between the CPC and CPP, Li said that the relationship between the political parties is an important part of Sino-Cambodian relations which has played an irreplaceable role in the promotion of the ties of the two countries.

Moreover, Li said that the Communist Party of China attached great importance to developing friendly cooperation with CPP, and willing to continue to maintain and strengthen high level exchanges between the two parties, to expand the exchange of experience in managing state affairs, and to promote trade and economic cooperation between China and Cambodia through inter- party exchanges, so as to push forward the comprehensive cooperative partnership between the two countries to a new level.

China will continue to support Cambodia's independent choice of social system and development road which is accordant with the situation of a country, Li stressed.

On his part, Prime Minister Hun Sen said "Cambodia profoundly thanks to the Communist Party of China, the government and the people of China for supporting generously to the stability and progress of Cambodia during the past to present."

"The government of Cambodia will continue to resolutely pursue the one China policy and support China's great cause of peaceful reunification, respects China's sovereignty and territorial integrity," added the premier.

He said that Cambodia is pleased to strengthen and expand friendship relation and cooperation on all sectors with China in order to bring happiness to the peoples of the two countries.

Vice-Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee Ai Ping and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Pan Guangxue attended the meeting.

Li Yuanchao, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, secretary of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat, arrived in Siem Reap, Cambodia on Tuesday to pay a friendly visit to Cambodia and attend the 6th General Assembly of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), which is to be held here on Dec. 1-4.
