The Asian Hockey Federation has pledged the best possible help to the Cambodian Hockey Federation now that there is a change of guard and a change of attitude towards the revival of the sport in the Kingdom.

The annual general meeting of the AHF, held in Kuala Lumpur last week, welcomed the reemergence of the CHF from the throes of a near extinction.

“All the procedural issues, like our membership status, were quickly resolved and we took part in the elections,” national team Head Coach and Technical Director Rana Asif Maqsood told The Post yesterday.

The coach, who represented the CHF at the meeting, also secured a place in the Development, Umpiring and Coaching committee, opening up a window of opportunity for the Federation to get a better footing in the region.

“Several counties have promised us help in their individual capacities, and the AHF will soon provide us with some equipment. It was a very fruitful meeting as far as the CHF was concerned,” said Pakistan born Maqsood.

“Thailand and Laos are keen on a three-way partnership with Cambodia and we are working out details.”

The search for a suitable practice ground in Phnom Penh is underway, but interim training sessions have been planned to start on February 5 on the sports field of Boeung Keng Kang school.

Maqsood also confirmed that two club sides from Pakistan will pay a visit soon.
