Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Friday charged six people for their roles in a robbery that left two men dead and a woman severely injured in Koh Dach commune.

Deputy Prosecutor Sok Roeun said the suspects, aged between 24 to 52, were being detained in Prey Sar prison while authorities continued their investigations.

“They were charged with intentional murder, the use of illegal weapons and the illegal trafficking of gunpowder.”

Police have labelled the shootings a case of “revenge” masterminded by Yin Bunthoeun, a 24-year-old suspect who police say has admitted to shooting Hem Vannak.

Pol Pithey, deputy police chief for Phnom Penh, told a press conference on Thursday how the case had progressed.

“We arrested three suspects several hours after they killed the victims. And the next day we arrested the other three suspects, two of whom are accused of supplying the barrel gun, while another [suspect] is a bullet seller,” he said.

In addition, Pol Pithey said the shootings had been planned for three months before they occurred.
